HRV Yoga is truly a heartfelt yoga and is focused on heart rate variability
HRV Yoga is a yoga practice that uses body sensors and wearable technology to track physiological activity in your body. The acronym HRV stands for Heart Rate Variability, a calculation of the natural variation that occurs between each beat of your heart. HRV Yoga brings a quantitative element to your practice that “teaches” greater body awareness.
Tracking heart rate variability has been used for decades in elite athletic training programs to help trainers and athletes determine fitness, recovery rates, and to avoid over training. HRV has also been used extensively in psychological studies and therapies. Learning and using methods to track heart rate variability is for anyone interested in reducing stress in the mind and body.
Measuring physical, emotional and psychological changes in your body requires a window into the autonomic nervous system (ANS). In HRV Yoga we use heart rate variability tracking to open that window and view the balance and coherence you experience with yoga. The practice of yoga brings the two branches of your ANS, the parasympathetic nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system into balance. HRV Yoga helps you see this change in the nervous system live and in action. The feedback loop that HRV Yoga provides you is like having a virtual witness to graph what your natural witness can show you. A consistent yoga practice using HRV Yoga techniques widens your view to the window of your body’s experience.
